Hudson Valley Estate

Set along a quiet river on an estate in the Hudson Valley, this project brings a quiet moment of retreat to an edge of a thoughtfully restored property. With the main residence set on the hill above, the client wanted their Lighthouse Sauna placed intentionally near the water - visible from above, yet softly set close to the tree-line not far from the waters edge.

The estate itself had undergone detailed restorations over the past decade, with the homeowners preserving its original character through the use of local stone and regionally sourced materials. Drawn to Harbor for the intentional use of materials and technique that echoed this sentiment, the clients sought a structure that would feel natural within the landscape while being able to stand up to the long winters and humid summers that define the region.

Clad in Harbor's flagship Weathered Grey Cedar and designed to settle within the landscape, this particular Lighthouse Sauna sits quietly among the grasses and trees. Over time, the cedar will continue to silver, and the brass fixtures will patina, softening further into surrounding environment. From the hilltop home, the sauna reads not as an object, but as a quiet focal point - drawing the eye gently toward the water below.

This installation also marks the beginning of a larger vision. The sauna is the first step in a plan to develop the river’s edge into an outdoor wellness retreat, with natural stone steps down to the water and seating to follow in seasons ahead. By beginning with the sauna, the clients chose to anchor their landscape with a structure that honors both its function and its place.

"Harbor’s attention to detail and thoughtful use of material is something rare. The sauna feels less like something added to the landscape, and more like it was always meant to be there."
