Taking advantage of a hillside view overlooking the Chesapeake Bay, this sauna installation transforms a second home in Maryland into a destination for connection with the surrounding natural landscape. The clients desired to integrate a meaningful amenity to share with friends and family, elevating their property with a space that complements the natural beauty of the bay. Drawn to Harbor for their timeless design and use of natural materials, the clients sought an outdoor sauna that would blend seamlessly with the landscape surrounding them they have appreciated for years.

The sauna’s clean, modern lines blend seamlessly with the hillside and waterfront, while the expansive glass windows provide uninterrupted views of the water below. Elevated above the sloping terrain, there is a sense of balance between built and natural environments. The ash and cedar cladding will weather gracefully over time, further blending the sauna into its setting while connecting the design to the enduring character of the Chesapeake Bay. This installation is a testament to how thoughtful design and timeless materials can transform a home into a sanctuary that honors its environment.
