Materials With Purpose

Designed For Today, Honoring The Past

At Harbor Saunas, we intentionally pour over every detail of our builds, stressing over the experience we provide and the durability of our saunas. By relying heavily on materials that have withstood the test of time, we've carefully constructed saunas that recall and honor the maritime past of the Northeast that inspires us, while implementing minimal Scandinavian design elements. The end result leaves you with a modern sauna experience that will age timelessly, no matter where you decide to place it.

Delivering Quality Designed For Life

Every material we choose in our sauna designs is thoughtfully selected.

01

Thermally Modified Ash

We hand selected FSC Certified thermally modified ash from Arbor Wood Co. for the exterior of our sauna builds, as well as the interior benches. Being the gold standard in durability, the thermal modification process to the ash removes moisture and resin which leaves a wood that is extremely rot resistant and stable. In addition to the obvious longevity this provides, there is also an added sustainability benefit. Over time spent in the elements, ash will form a beautiful weathered patina.

02

Western Red Cedar

We use USA-sourced western red cedar in a variety of ways on both the exterior and interior of our builds. Known for its durability when it comes to moisture and decay, cedar is an obvious choice to ensure our saunas will age without worry in any conditions.

03

Brass Exterior Fixtures

Brass is a material with a rich history supporting maritime builds, utilized purposefully to endure harsh weather and corrosive environments. We thoughtfully sourced brass exterior detail pieces to tie together our vision for all our sauna builds, giving a subtle nod to the maritime legacy of the Northeast. You'll find this used on any lighting elements, towel hooks, and light switches on the outside of our saunas.

04

HUUM Electric Heaters

Channeling traditional Scandinavian design while incorporating modern technology, we utilize heaters from HUUM on our builds.

Our Lighthouse Sauna features the HUUM HIVE 12kW heater. With a larger stone capacity, the HIVE provides maximum thermal efficiency, ensuring a more consistent soft heat and long-lasting hot steam.

Coming standard with the HUUM WiFi controller, you (or your guests) can turn your sauna on with the click of a button, no matter where you are.

05

Steel

Our saunas utilize a textured 26-gauge steel standing seam roof. Documented to last over 100 years, this will be the last roof you ever need to buy and will ensure proper protection from even the most severe weather.

06

ROCKWOOL

We insulate our saunas with ROCKWOOL, a premium insulation product that ensures heat retention, water and moisture resistance, as well as excellent sound absorbency.
